Hire Open Hearth Works

Open Hearth Works and Our Mission

Since 1884, we’ve helped men experiencing homelessness find jobs. In the past, we’ve run a working farm, a chair-caning business, and sold firewood.

Launched in 2016, Open Hearth Works provides maintenance for several Hartford venues. More importantly, we give men who live at The Hearth (and other hard-to-employ residents of Greater Hartford!) employment training and real-world job experience.

What is a Social Enterprise?

Open Hearth Works is a social enterprise – a venture designed to help us earn income and meet our mission.

The Open Hearth was one of only 10 nonprofits chosen by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving for a three-year SEA (Social Enterprise Accelerator) initiative. Through SEA, national consultants provide intensive business plan development, implementation support, and fundraising coaching, designed to help us build an excellent business that will serve our community.

Open Hearth Works

Open Hearth Works (OHW) provides work crews who perform maintenance, cleaning and similar jobs. OHW is a venture that supports our mission and offers cost-effective and professional services.

Companies that choose OHW are guaranteed vetted workers and onsite supervision at every job. Unlike other employment businesses, companies contract directly with The Open Hearth – not with individual workers.

Whether you’re a small business, company, nonprofit, or government group, OHW can be your go-to source for qualified labor. Join us in helping men help themselves by hiring OHW.
